“Orange, Red, Yellow” (1961) by Mark Rothko. This contemporary art painting sold in an auction for nearly $87 million earlier this month. It astonishes me how people can put such a price on art like this—I feel like I could’ve painted that when I was a little kid for heaven’s sake! What’s so special about a mixture of orange, red and yellow anyways?! Read the New York Times article about the auction here.
Music video for “Someone Like You” by Adele, made by Casey Ford Alexander at Princeton University. I think this video is even better than Adele’s original music video for this song (which can be seen here), and it almost made me cry! I find Adele’s music so amazing, passionate and real—she truly knows how to reach out to her audiences because her music is so relatable.
The Value Of A Life
In preparation for the summer, I’ve been searching around for volunteer opportunities because I felt like I really needed to give back to the community, which is something I haven’t done in a while, especially being so busy with school. So after doing a little research online, I decided to attend a volunteer orientation for the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford—little did I know, this place was going to change my life forever.
The Next Beatles?
It’s been a long time since there’s been a group around like The Beatles. The originality of the music they produced, the significance of the lyrics, the screaming girls (in which the odd one would faint), the aura of it all…they were just such a special foursome. That kind of thing just doesn’t exist anymore.
However, just the other day, I was driving to school and happened to turn on the radio, when this amazing song came up. It was called “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction, the latest boy band from Great Britain consisting of five members, ages 18 – 20, who all met on the UK’s X-Factor reality TV show.
I came up with several possible explanations/captions for this photo:
- PARTY ON THE ROOFTOP
- Aw motherf***er the sun’s in my eye
- All hail the sun god!
- I’m high as f***, literally and figuratively
- ♪ “I throw my hands up in the air sometimes/sayin’ ayo/baby let’s go/’cause we ‘gon rock this club/we ‘gon go all night/we ‘gon light it up/like it’s dynamite” ♪
